I got a wild hair late the other night (or more like early morning) and cut my holes. There really is not much to it. The hardest part is starting the hole. My bits wanted to walk on the glass. Once you get it going the drill and bit really do all the work. If you want help just let me know. Sorry for not letting you know but it was not a good time to call.

I cut a practice hole last night. Yeah, it's easy. I was surprised.

The trick I used to get streight holes and to start them is to make a wood guide to start it. I also put a small water hole to keep it wet and worked great.

Does wood 'gum up' the diamond bit? You're bound to hit the wood using it as a guide...........?

No you only hit the side of the bit not the cutting part of course you use a regular bit to cut the hole in the wood.

I have always started by putting the drill at about a 45 degree angle, the bit grabs the glass right off and does not skate at all. Slowly over a couple minutes you can come back up to a straight alignment. has worked perfect for me for the past 6-7 holes.

Thats exactly how I do mine, too, dzones. Works great!

Thats also how they suggest doing it that way on the glass-holes video.

What did have you guys found worked better?

High speed?
Low speed?
High/low torque?

I want high speed high torque and had no problems but just curious.

I think high speed should be best. You don't need torque as you shouldn't be pushing hard.

I tried the 45 degree starting point on my practice, and then used a circle (wood template) when drilling the tank. The wood guide make it almost too easy! No skating at all. Perfect holes each time.
