Hello,

I have a Canon A640 that I am going to be using for some underwater photography on some reefs in Florida this summer. I was wondering if you could give me some tips on optimal settings for capturing moving fish? Thanks!!

You're aiming for fast shutter speeds with moving fish. Since that camera doesn't have aperture or shutter speed priority you will probably get the best results by using the kids and pets scene mode.

Actually it does have a Aperture priority mode and you can control the shutter speed.

I copied and pasted this from a review site of the camera:

"The aperture range is f/2.8-f/8, which is fairly standard, and while the top shutter speed of 1/2500th"

You're correct in that those settings exist, but you can't control them via aperture or shutter speed priority because the camera is mostly automatic. The camera decides which of those apertures and shutter speeds will get the best shot every time you take a picture. If you had the priority modes you could select the settings you think would be best. But since you can't, the next best thing is to select the scene mode which will bias the settings towards fast shutter speeds [pet/kids]. I'm going by the specs on dpreview.com by the way.
