to run a skimmer or not?

Well after being out for awhile my wife got my a 25 gallon Mr. Aqua
for Christmas. I ran a 10 gallon tank with a skimmer but,
I'm wondering if anyone is running a tank this size without one?
I was thinking of running a HOB with chemipure and water changes

I'm not sure. If you aren't going to run a skimmer I whould guess to at least use some macro algae to help eat up some of the nitrates and other impurities.

A skimmer usually extracts all the unwanted gunk, fish waste, over feeding, etc. So I would imagine you would need great maintenance or something to make up for the skimmer.

Short answer, no it's not needed, but it is definitely a good idea. Higher bioloads will make it a necessity.

Do a quick search, this question gets asked at least once a week :)

I always ran them on my big tanks. I want to have SPS and maybe one or two very small fish.....I think i'll just run one...its better to have it then scramble to get one later.

I also tried the search but it wasn't working :-/

I think that's a good idea, especially since you plan to keep SPS :)

i have the exact tank, and if you arent running a sump over 20 gallons i wouldnt waste the money on a skimmer. Go get yourself some BRS dosing pumps and dose so your SPS will grow at superspeeds. there are some studies that show that if you have to little nutrients in the water that it slows the growth of corals. If you only plan on 1-2 fish in a 25gallon aquarium, the tank will be spotless with a skimmer, and the water will be "to clean". Just my opinion. if you see that nutrients are becoming to high then you could add a cheapo skimmer, but i honestly dont think it will be a problem
