To SMS or not to SMS that is the question.

First of all what model of ProfiLux are you running?

Remote operation is accomplished through the ProfiLux being connected (hardwired or wireless if you are running a wireless bridge) to your home network. Once that's configured you connect to your ProfiLux remotely via either your web browser or an app (Droid or iOS) but both require you to know the IP address. Also if you want to connect remotely locally ( as in use the App or web browser from inside your home network) you'll need to know your LOCAL IP addy in addition to knowing your public IP Addy for true remote access.u

The SMS Module is so you can .get text alerts from your ProfiLux as well as during power out situations. It sends the message over a Cellular connection in lieu or an internet connection.

I hope that helps.

I'm looking to hook up a profilux 3 in my office. Problem is that the hospital is crazy with privacy. I'm looking for a way to not have to jump on there network if that is even possible. Can the unit send updates without the SMS?

Do they have a public WiFi connection? You could piggy back off of that by adding a bridge to your set-up. The simply converts the ethernet signal from the ProfiLux to a Wireless signal so you can communicate wirelessly with WWW.

To send out status emails no. You may have a hard time accessing you profilux remotely. By default most public Wi-Fi blocks port 80. There are ways around it though.

I have talked to the ISS department, and there talking about giving my a IP address on the public network. Would that idea work?
