To treat or not to treat

I picked up a free trigger and some sort of grouper a few days ago from a guy who wasn't keeping up with his tank anymore. The water quality was quite poor and the grouper has a pretty bad case of what I think is fin rot on his caudal/tail fin. He is now fully acclimated to my tank and is eating well. The fin rot does not appear to be spreading but I can't be sure. Will this go away on its own with good water quality and proper nutrition or should I treat it with something. The only things I have on hand is some old rid ich and some melafix which I've never used. Any thoughts are appreciated.

A proper diet including selcon or something similar to soak the food prior to feeding as well as good water quality and it should make a recovery.

Yeah I've been soaking chunks of shrimp in Zoe and he's been eating them with vigor. I'm hoping he'll begin healing naturally because I really hate to treat with chemicals unless absolutely necessary.
