Toadstool in need of TLC

I received a toadstool frag from a buddy of mine that I added to my tank a little over a week ago... the frag was immediately thriving as its polyps were extended and didn't show any signs of disease.

However, I came home to find the toadstool had fell off of the frag rack and was lying on the sand bed, that was Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I put the toadstool back on the rack and to date it still has not extended its polyps.

The coloration of the frag appears to still be "flesh" colored. Is there something I can do to treat it? Am I doing something wrong?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

they don't like to be moved or touched at all. They need to be left alone to settle in.

I also find a water change makes mine pop more than usual

Can you post a picture? There are some real experts on this forum who can tell you exactly wrong with just a glance. (NOT ME though)

here are some images of the poor guy

the first is the location of the frag on my aquascape, middle level of the tank below the MP40...

I've noticed that some times sand gets knocked around and a little falls onto the toadstool, which i remove with a turkey baster... but could that be the problem?

sorry the images come out sideways... not sure why and i dont know how to rotate them.

My toadstool is the most temperamental in my tank. It rarely extends its polyps. Extends maybe every 2 weeks. It also looks like my tangs pick on it. Is that usual? Getting picked on by tangs?

Im not sure if its normal but something is picking on mine as well. Im thinking its the tangs. Other choices could be foxface or cowfish,

Unless you see serious tissue deterioration, just let it be. Make sure there is at least a little current flowing near it. Especially after prolonged periods of looking dormant, they'll often times develop a "skin" that needs to be shed.

Hi,

I am having a similar problem. However my Leather is about 15 years old and was doing fine over the years. Currently....It molts (loose it skin), and then starts to polyp a bit. Then stops polyping, and does the whole thing over and over again. I did add some a lot of Magnesium to the tank to bring up the chemistry, and I figure it is reacting.

However here is something interesting, not sure if this may work. A couple of years ago it wasn't polyping like now. We had our house being painted so the tank was covered with no light for a week. When I uncovered the tank he was 30% bigger, All puffed up, and polyps fully extended. He stayed after that. Till now.

Your thread reminded me of that fix. I just turned off my light timer and will leave MH light off for a few days and see what happens. T5 accent lighting on for now. I'll let you know how it goes. But generally my leather does react to stress, but always bounces back after a while. Even when one got ripped in half, since I had to separate the two rocks it was attached to. Both halfs survived. Leathers are tough!

I do have 2 clowns living it, and they do miss their polyp blanket.
