Toadstool isn't looking good anymore!

I have a beautiful large, was about 8-10" across, toadstool.

It's now looking spotchy and funky. tenacles/feelers are turning darker and not as many extend.

It's in my tall 90g, 2-250w MH, 4-55w 03 atinics, under the 20k MH.

0 = trite,trate,amm, cal is about 400.

Whats wrong with my baby, I've had him about 4 months, just started 4 days ago.

I'm doing a 30% water change in am.

I have one that does the same thing every couple of months. Looks bad for a few days then pops right back like nothing happened. I think these guys are known for such things. Hope thats all it is

It sounds like it is getting ready to shed, leather will do this when they grow. Anyway they will loose some coloration, polyps wont come out anymore, and the coral will start to shrivel up.
This is all normal and the coral will shed for a couple of days. I would wait for say a week, and he should spring back better than ever.

When mine is going through the shedding process, sometimes I'll use a turkey baster to help the process along some.

Just leave him (her?), alone. It is growing. It will slough its top layer (transparent looking) "skin", and come back bigger then ever before......all leathers will do this.....you might consider fragging him (once he is back to normal)....at 8~10" thats a good size to start fragging...you shold be able to get 4 good size frags....just my 2 cents

pete...take a brand new razor blade...slice the mother like a pizza
(as many as you want , but not all the way thru the "stalk"...) so its still attached on the rock...then wait maybe no more then a week for it to heal thru the cut sections....then...just slice the "stalk" at the bottom where its attached on the rock...whola....there are lots of sites re: fragging....GARF has great info on it

Rockhead good luck with the toad, my small one does the same thing every once in awhile.
I also wanted to chime in when I saw your location, I am from MQT. Not often that you talk to a fellow UP native.
