Toadstool Question

I recently got a small toadstool leather coral from one of the local reefers, and it's been in the tank for about 2 weeks[10 gallon nano]. But it's not looking like what I've seen online as far as polyp extension goes-the cap is around the size of a silver dollar, and [seemingly] only about a third of the polyps are extended, and the ones that are, do not have the fan-like structures on the ends stretched out. I can't get a good picture, but based on what I've said, does anyone have a clue what might be going on? The params are fine, and all the other corals in the tank seem to be doing great.
Thx!

This is very common for leathers. Give it some time and it will eventually open up. As long as you are not noticing black spots on it, it shuold be fine. Do you have it near any LPS that may be stinging it?

there is some frogspawn 2-3 inches away from it, but that's as close as i've ever seen it get, fully expanded...

I am going to agree with Jack*. Leathers can take quite a while to adjust to new conditions. You might think of the critter's only extending a few polyps as its "testing of the waters."

Given a bit more time, and still no change, you might try giving it a bit less light. Over the years, I have noticed a correlation between high light and reduced extension, and vice versa.

^okay, thanks! there's only 20 [total] watts of pcs on the tank, that's not enough to give it problems, is it?

Leathers take some time to adjust to the new Environment, once it get's adjusted it will grow like crazy.

Ah, I see. 20 watts is actually a modest amount of light. I can't see that being too much light. If anything, it might be too little light.

I don't think I would change anything for the moment. Just keep a close eye on the critter. Again, this process can take a while. If any part of the leather starts turning black, then immediate action will be required.

I have a toadstool that is doing a similar thing. been in my tank for over a month and I don't see it's while feathers on the ends of its fingers out much. I moved it up in the tank a couple weeks ago, could it still not be fully adjusted? Coloration looks good on it otherwise.
