Too much light?

After buying my blue crocea I put it in the sand under 250w 10 MH lights with a small rock underneath. A week later I moved it up onto the rockwork. Now it has a hair like thing extending from its mantle and seems to be trying to move away from the light by laying horizontal. The clam is looks great and it extending all the way. The dealer had it low in a tank with 250w watt haildes that were about 20" away with a dirty plexiglass shield. My top is open and my lights about 8". I am worried it has too much light, but can it?

Shallow water clams do not need too much acclimation to light. How close to the surface of the water is the clam?

That is by no means too close to the lights. Unless the clam has already attached itself to the rock, I would try to lower it a bit just to see how it reacts. Your lighting is more than adequate to do so. Keep us posted on what happens.

Not sure if it changes things but I neglected to mention 220w of pc actinic. The clam is attached to a small rock so I may try and move it a little see how it does and then epoxy it. I figured out some of the problem is that little rock movings around a bit. I'll keep you posted.

Dont yank on it if it is already attached. That can very easily kill it. And the actinics dont really change the situation.
