Topoff Storage outside of stand

Right now mine is just sitting in the open next to the stand. I kind of like that ottoman idea, but I'd be nervous someone would pull it out to sit on and mess up the wiring/tubing.

the ottoman is pretty slick. i actually had another stand built and put another tank on top of it, linked to main sump. ;)

at my previous place i got a small cabinet for next to the stand and hid it in there, then used the top part for hiding various wires and controls. i still use a variation of the cabinet to hide things, you may have to reinforce the base, but it works really well.

the cabinet i used is similar to this, but styled differently:

I'm going to be building a wood cabinet of the same cherry wood as my stand. It will be elevated and a gravity fed system. If it fails then that shouldn't be too big a deal. Plus when I refill it, if it was out for a while, it should top off the tank rather slowly so it does not create much of a difference. Mine will be back against the wall and should not stand out very much, I'll have a 3rd piece that stores my equipment as well so it will look like a set rather than random furniture sitting there.

I just bought a 30 gallon Sterilite container for like $8 from Big Lots... They had 18 gallon ones for $5 as well. I'd get something like that and build an enclosure around it. I'd be careful to ensure that whatever you build is obviously not meant to be moved, otherwise you're liable to have a guest yank wires or hoses out.

I got really lucky... I have a closet on the other side of the wall behind the tank, and a very understanding wife lol. I drilled a hole through the wall behind the stand, right above the baseboard into the closet. This closet is now my fish closet.... and the coat closet got moved into the back den. If I were really on top of my game i would have plumbed the sump through the wall into the closet too.... but that was a little bit too much for this set up.
