Torch coral and water movement

Hey all,

I recently rearranged the live rock in my 55 gallon reef to make room for rose anemones. After getting it all back together, I'm having a hard time getting the powerheads adjusted so everything is happy. What I'm wondering is how much current a torch can take and still be happy and healthy. Right now it's getting moved around pretty briskly, and isn't expanded as much as it was prior to this. It's still open, but just not as large.

It doesn't appear to be in danger of being ripped apart, but has a lot going on...

Thanks!

I tend to keep my euphyillia a little retracted with some current. They can get really big with little water movement. Then they start stinging stuff. I think enough water flow so that it gentles a nice swaying motion is good.

I have my torch in a similar amount of flow, it's fine. The only thing is, mine is where the flow from 2 pumps meet, so it gets tossed around in all sorts of directions. Yours seems to be getting hit from one direction. Just like any coral, random chaotic flow is better than laminar flow. My torch gets huge, and doesn't seem to be bothered at all.

How recently did you re-scape? It may just take some time to adjust to the new spot/ flow before it fully expands.

I actually moved my torch into more current b/c it was getting to large and stinging many corals around it in light flow. I have it in strong flow now and it is doing fine. Hope it works out for you.
