Total reef beginner biotope

I'm completely new to reef keeping although I have kept FOWLR and 2016 is when I'm going to set up my first reef.
I'll be working with a Red Sea 500
So I'm really looking for stocking ideas, I'd like some different fish and some easy to keep corals to start with. You can go as advanced as you like but let me know the difficulty level, or special needs.
I'd prefer a biotope aquarium but if you have some awesome suggestions that might go out of the window.

Thanks

Wow, if you’re talking about the Red Sea Max 500, that’s a nice setup. 540 watts of light for a 135 gal tank your choice of corals is large. But since you are new to corals I would stick to “beginner” soft corals. Things like Toadstool Leather Coral, Mushroom Corals. You have an equally large selection of fish and inverts to pick from. Just do a search for live fish and corals and do some research. Pick fish that are reef safe (cardinals, clownfish, tangs…) Remember your live corals come first with regards to tank setup. The fish are second so research and pick wisely.
