Totally clueless with this monti

I got this little monti for free from someone. I dont know what it is and the picture doesnt show the color well. I am not even sure if I glued the right side. Its has ridges but no poylps so I dont know if its alive or even if it is supposed to have polyps. The side I glued was smooth.

You did a good job and it will grow out from the jagged cracked edge if you wanted to glue to the side of a rock or glass or whatever. Give plenty of light and you should see good growth.

Ok Ive got high up in the tank with plenty of light. Decent flow area. Im just not familiar with this because my red cap monti has poylps and grows fast and this hasnt changed at all since I got it.

I just looked at some pics on google. You might be right, Mine isnt nearly as purple though its more reddish.

Yeah mine isnt either, mine also is the slowest grower in my tank. I dont think it is a big fan of my LEDs. Some people can get them to grow like crazy though.

Good to know thanks bud. I thought it may have been dead because it hasnt grown at all. I may try to put it somewhere with more flow and see if that helps

Im to the point that ill probably break it in half to see if I cant induce growth that way.

haha Im pretty sure that's exactly how I got mine. I traded some coral with a local guy and we were all done and he reached in the tank and just threw that in my bucket and said here have a monti. And based on the sharp sides and angles I think he just broke a piece off.

I can see polyps. Looks healthy.

I have the same one in my tank. Those blue tips you see there are pollyps. Grows really fast too!
