So a while back my LFS gave me a Trachyphyllia for free. The coral was in poor health to say the least and had a couple of dead spots where the skeleton was showing through and most of the fleshy areas were transparent.
I had never kept an LPS coral before so I figured I had nothing to lose and threw it in my tank and kind of forgot about it. I would probably end up with a neat looking piece of live rock in a few weeks.
Fast forward six months and the Trach is still alive. There are still spots where the skeleton is showing through, but the coral has healed around the spots where there was exposed flesh before. Overall the coral has taken on some neat color mix of orange and green, but there are areas where the flesh is completely transparent and has no color at all.
While the rest of the coral seems to be in good order and growing, these areas seem stubborn about getting the color back. Do LPS corals eventually get all their color back when they heal or will it stay transparent?
