TRADEWIND chiller opinions

I am looking into a chiller after two years of summer heat losses and wanted to get some feedback or opinions on tradewind chillers.

i have a tradewinds 1/4hp drop-in for almost 4 yrs and never had an issue. you can't go wrong with a tradewinds or aqua-logic chiller, both are made here in the US and use compressors that are widely used in the commercial world.

I'm an Aqualogic man myself and couldn't be happier with it. Holds my tank steady at 79-80 and isn't too noisy for a chiller. Like mentioned above, both are well made products, in America, by Americans; you'll have zero problems with customer service.

I have a Tradewinds external 1.5 hp chiller to replace a PCI 1 hp in-home unit.
The Tradewind looks like a home AC unit. :)

I just got it plumbed in 3 weeks ago so I don't know the difference in $$$ in regards to the electric bill yet, but my Temp does not fluctuate more than 0.2 degrees.

Solidly built with a Ranco controller.
I love it.
If you want questions answered call them up and speak with Hal.
He's a good guy.

Thanks to all for your input. I have had two years in a row of losses due to summer heat for not wanting to give in to the expense. What an idiot i am.

I just bought a old tradewinds 1/3rd hp chiller and its pretty old, and still runs great. Had to buy a new cover for it, But the internal parts are running very good and in spec.
When/If this one die's i'll buy another tradewinds. They are very nice and very helpfull! And like stated made in the Good ole USA.

Mine is not the quietest, If its in a living space it would bug ya, But mine runs rarely because the DT is in the basement.
I use fans as a primary and chiller as a backup incase its really hot. Being in the midwest theres only 3 to 4 mos tops you have to worry about heat.

Could be that the cover is not in yet and all the noise is unobstructed.

I am still seriously debating which one to purchase, the Tradewind or AquaLogic. Tradwind only makes chillers and nothing else and they have a very solid warranty while AquaLogic has what looks like a more efficient coil design. Keep in mind I am just considering a drop in model; I like keeping my plumbing simple. Decisions in reefing are so complex!
