Transfer sps to new tank without death?

I am downgrading from a 60g to a 40b.

What can I do to ensure I can have the sps survive in a relatively new tank?
Or will the effort ultimately be very hard even if I match salinity alk ca etc?

I'd like to shut down the old tank by the end of the year and I started cycling the new tank yesterday.

What do you guys suggest?

I would suggest, to keep losses at a very minimal.
Set up the downgrade near your current tank, let it cycle with both tanks side by side.
That way parameters are verbatim and all you have to worry about is removing the livestock from the system.

Or the easy way out is to drain the tank immediately to another container, remove all livestock, mount them in the downgraded tank and pump water back in. Shouldn't take more than an hour, the water parameters should be fine.

There's several ways to do it, I'm sure more people will be able to chime in.

One issue with that is I've had an impossible to control aiptasia plague forever and I don't want to risk transferring anything over at all so I don't want a drop of water moving over.

I've always used reg IO salt so as long as I match everything as best I can hopefully it will be ok?

Although I guess I can move some hardier species first and give them a week and see if they look ok or not.
