transfer to new tank during cycle

Hi

I started with 5 gallon, it has been cycling for over 2 weeks. Ammonia 0
Nitrite spiked few days ago. I am starting to see brown algae spots on the dry rock.

I have a 17 gallon arriving next week. My question is if it's ok to
transfer the dry rock and water to new tank to start new cycle or
I will end up with the brown algae taking over.

I have to take down the 5 gallon, remove it from the counter to make room for the 17 gallon.

I had lights off during the initial startup. Do I keep lights on during brown
algae phase? Does everyone go through brown algae or diamtoms during
cycling?

It's perfectly normal and more than likely to happen in the 17 gallon too. If you have no inhabitants, just keep the lights off. No need for them.
