Trapping a mantis shrimp.

Salty Cracker

I have tried the water bottle trick, only thing I managed was to trap all my Tonga snails. Any other ideas? The little bugger is fast, and my has taken out all of my hermits.

If he hiding in some live rock I would remove that piece and place in a seperate container with water from your tank
At least you have isolated him.

if you can locate him in a specific rock take that rock out and put in a bucket with tank water. pour a small amount of seltzer water in the hole you think hes in and he should come right out. if that does not work shake the rock vigorously until he comes out. and if that does not work then throw the whole rock into a bucket with ro water and just wait

I had that problem once. Nothing work until my Sister reminded me of how we used to fish for crabs. Ball a bit of fishing line around a piece of rubble so it will sink to the bottom. In the middle of the ball of string, place a small piece of shrimp, or whatever it may eat. When it crawled onto the string to get the shrimp, it got tangled in the line and I pulled it up out of the tank. What ever you do. keep the line that you are going to pull it out with taunt so that it doesn't pull the ball back into the rocks. Good Luck. That dang thing had me take a 180gl tank half down.
