Treating a fish with Ich in Qt

Hello

A friend of mine asked me to QT some of his fish for him. He is running fallow for 8 weeks and he does not have the room to house all of his fish while his 250 gallon tank is running fallow. He asked me if I would hold his fish in my QT system I agreed to do this with the understanding that i am not responsible if the fish dies. Here are the fish he has asked me to QT. A purple tang, a blue face angel and a three anthesis I do not recall the name of. he

The angel has visible ich cysts. The purple tang has no visible cysts although its fins are severely damaged. He assures me this is either ich or a bacterial infection. The fish was scratching on a rock. The anethesis seem totally fine no sign of illness what so ever.

I have a separate QT system I am using to house his fish separate from my own as my fish are already in a couple of weeks QT. I do not want to reset the clock so to speak.

In this situation I am actively treating Ich I am running copper.(cupramine) at a level of 0.35

I am not sure what is going on with the purple tang
I know fin rot can happen from Ich, a bacterial or viral infection, or even flukes
sometimes all of the above. Can I target Ich, flukes and a secondary bacterial infection at the same time?
I thought i read that marcin can be dosed with cupramine. I don't want the bacterial infection to turn into full blown sepsis ( severe systemic infection) while I am treating the fish with ich. Can I dose marcin with cupramine and prazipro at the same time?

What you are seeing on the tang is likely a (secondary) bacterial infection from Ich. It's gram positive. So, I would suggest using Maracyn (or erythromycin same thing) in conjunction with Cupramine. Only issue you might have is possible appetite suppression. DO NOT overdose the erythromycin (underdose if in doubt), and increase O2 levels significantly.

I have cupramine and prazipro in this water. Can I add maracyn as well?

If you consider the fin rot to be severe then go ahead. I've mixed all three before with no ill effects. However, if you think treating with Maracyn can wait until after Prazi is done (it's only active for 36 hrs max), then I would err on the side of caution and wait. It's a judgement call. But the less meds you mix, the safer you are. BTW, if this is the f/w Maracyn you are using you'll have to double the dosage. I've noticed the s/w Maracyn is getting harder to find.

One more thing since we're talking about a purple tang here. Are you sure the "fin rot" isn't HLLE? You should also see "rot" or "peeling" around the face area if it is.

Body of fish looks great. it is just the fins that are being eaten away. i have maracyn plus. it says for rest or salt water use.

Maracyn Plus uses different active ingredients (Sulfadimidine and Trimethoprim) than regular Maracyn (Erythromycin) and Maracyn 2 (Minocycline). I have no experience using the active ingredients in Maracyn Plus w/Cupramine & Prazi. Just Maracyn, Maracyn 2 and Furan-2.
