Treating with copper

I have a question about copper tx. If you keep a fish in copper at .2ppm for six weeks will that cause harm to the fish in the long run. I have heard that if a fish is kept in copper too long that it weekens the fish and it will probably die in a month or two after placing the fish in the main tank. Also is it a good idea to qt new fish in copper and for how long?

scubagreg,

While I advocate for a six week quarantine period myself, I only treat with ionic copper for two of those weeks, and might bump it up to three if I see actual signs of protozoan disease. Six weeks of 0.2ppm copper seems excessive to me.
Copper will cause problems with some species from time to time, think of it as chemotherapy, not a "tonic". Some of the fish I don't use copper on include jawfish, seahorses and sharks.
