Tree coral gangrene or propagating?

My tree coral frag who h had been growing quite well suddenly developed a dark black area ar the base of one of the branches (see center of the not so great photo). Is this indicative of an issue or is it getting ready to propagate by dropping a branch?

Thanks!

Are you sure it's not a flatworm or something like that? If not, you might want to look into Necrosis. Fragging the coral might be your next step.

Ok that was weird. Rubbed with my finger and the whole thing came off (all the black). Like it was a sheet of black algae or something. Was not a worm but was all one piece. Again, a sheet of algae like substance is the closest I can describe. Coral is ****ED at me for bugging it and is now contracting a bit we will see what he's like when he's done sulking. Tissue under the black thing seems normal. Weird.

So small update. Saw black again on a different spot. Again, wiped it off. Some areas have a pale to greenish cast. Trying to figure out what's going on. The greenish cast happened back in Feb but then went away. No black that time though. Will post pohoto
