Tree coral issues ... advice?

Old School Reefer
I've got a tree coral that until about a week ago was looking great, very spread out, polyps unfolded. About 3 weeks ago it started dropping frags; it's probably dropped 10 - 15 small frags since then. I'd reattach the frags elsewhere in the tank, and they are doing fine. But now the mother coral is looking unresponsive, very tightly compacted, almost as if it's in the dark. Does anyone know if this is a "recovery" phase from dropping so many frags? Or did it drop the frags as an indication of sickness, and now it's really sick? Thanks.

How long has the mother been closed up? Softies can be tricky sometimes. The capnella in my wife's 20L is very fickle (not to mention toadstools) and closes up for a few hours/a day every couple or three days. Dropping babies might be a stress response, but it is also natural for some softies to do so. I know members in MTRC have capnella that drop babies almost constantly. My sarco's drop them daily almost, but the mother remains expanded. If everything else in the tank is doing fine, I'd say it's likely just tempermental. How long have you had it?

Looks like the tree coral's dormant behavior was only temporary, perhaps associated with a period of dropping several frags. Parent and offspring are all doing fine now.
