Trigger lion

I was wondering if a black durgeon trigger will nip at a lion.

i hear they are a more docile species.

I just returned a pinktail (same genus, Melichthys) to the LFS today because it was picking on my dogface puffer and harlequin tuskfish, really stressing them out. A lion would be a sitting duck. While you can try it, I found out first hand there are no guarantees with triggers, even "mellow" ones. you would have a better chance, IMO, with a bluethroat or sargassum.

well atm i only have tangs, would he pick on them? i think i will skip the lion if it comes to it.

Can't say, but they are better able to deal with harassment, being faster swimmers. You could try it, with the idea of finding it a new home if it bullies them. If you can find it, I'd suggest you get an indian trigger instead of a durgon, as they stay smaller.

Melichthys indicus (to 10 inches)

Melichthys niger (to 18 inches)

No, Nigers can easily fall in the same category for aggression. As lisa said, Blue Throat or Sargassum is probably you're best bet.
