trimming elegance's 'cone'

I purchased a nice elegance coral yesturday, and it immediately opened after acclaimation. So all that is well and good, but it has a pretty long cone base, its taller than my sandbed is deep. Would it be safe to trim an inch or so off the point? How far down in the base does the actual coral live?

Nope... don't do it. Already one of the most sensitive corals you can buy. Many have success with super slow acclimation to lighting and flow. GL

It's on the bottom, low flow. I bought it from a wholesaler I trust, he had had it for 3 months and it looked great.

It did open nicely, I am now wondering if I should cut a section of PVC and fill with sand so the cone is buried and the flesh is supported by sand.

Looking better, I gently wiggled it as deep as I could, seems happier now.
