Wow, what a horrendous Web site they have!
The tripod looks like it will do the job, and Slik isn't a no-name, or eBay find, so you're probably in good hands. Bogen/Manfrotto would be the big name, but also often come with big price tags. Really, it depends on what you want to use the tripod for. I used to have a pretty cheap tripod. It wasn't the most sturdy, and it certainly didn't hold a lot of weight, but it always held my camera still for coral shots. I now use a larger, stronger, heavier, bulkier Manfrotto, and there's simply no comparison. I never did a lot of research on my tripod, I was just very lucky to find this tripod:

almost brand new, in a thrift store, for $4.95, so it was a no brainer. And for those who want to ask... the pistol grip sucks. It's not smooth, and it's not easy to make finite adjustments. I intend to replace it in time.
As for the flash, I shoot a Canon 20D, and use the 420EX, which is now replaced by the 430EX. It's Canon's #2 flash, behind the 540EX, but it hit the right bang-for-your-buck mark for me. I use it ALL THE TIME (except on tank shots). It has less power than the 540, and lacks the ability to be "master" in a multi-flash setup, but those weren't worth it to me. I figured once I get to the multi-flash stage, I can buy the 540 then, and this one can be "slave."
