True Perc, pairing a new fish with established one.

Hey guys,

I got a small true perc about 1.5 inches or a tag bigger for a month now. I wanted to wait for like 3 months before i get another smaller one and try to pair it up. BUT today i went to the LFS and saw a new batch of true perc. I like it so much and i bought the smallest and healthy one. At that monent, i forget all about the fact that the new small clown is just a bit smaller than my established one. I know it is not a good idea, i should wait for mine to get bigger and add a much smaller one. Anyway, i add the smaller one into the tank. at first they swim together nicely and then the old one attack the new one brutally. I put the old one into the breeding net, hopefully that give time for the new one to adjust to the tank and eat properly for couple days.

so what do you guys think?
would this helps to reduce aggressiveness once i release the old one after say 5 days?
How long should this fighting last? (there is really no fighting, the old one just beat up the new one, not much resistant from the new one. so it is safe to say they are not both female. they are too small to be both female i think.).
Is there a big chance that they will never work out and one would have to die? i am really afraid of this.

So if you guys have exprienced this before, please let me know.

thanks in advance.
PS. the tank is 10 gallons aga.

A new batch of juvis. im assumming they were all really tiny and from the same breeder?

juvis are sexless for quite awhile.

your older one might not even be a female yet. but will be the dominate one, and eventually turn male, then female.

Id let the older one out of the box.
fighting is going to occur. let it happen. dont pull out any clowns unless you REALLY feel the lil one will die without intervention.

once you start seeing the small one shiver and kinda dance, that means it is submitting and letting the larger clown know that it will be the male.

Let the older one out. if you want to cage any of them, put the smaller one in the box and as close to the older ones 'spot' as you can.

Let the older one get used to the lil one for awhile (1 day, 3 days if you have too)

then let it out. they'll still probley fight a lil

dont worry, i did the same thing as you the first time. the second time i used the box method and it worked like a charm. my lil guy got beat up pretty bad.. missing most of its fins. but they heal quick and within days they we4re sleeping in the same nem together

dont worry to much about it getting so beat up it dies. is there some places it can hide while the chase is on?

Thanks for the reply,

Last night an hour before sleep, i turned off the MH and only turn on the light on my room. I let the old one out and the two of them fighting a bit, just one pushs the other. I don't see them really biting off fins or anything like that. After i turned of my room's light and i look at the tank, there were still at it. This morning i woke up, two of them were at different side of the tank. The little one seem a bit tired. I have to go to work early, so i afraid if i let them home by themselve, one might die. I put the little one in the breeder net and the older one outside this time. After work today, i will let them out again and see what happen. I don't think tonight will success anything but i just want them to fight a bit and get used to each other without one being damage too much.

I paired GS maroon before and I was reallly lucky that time. I just dumped the younger one in and they just paired up. Not a single bite.

Let's see how it goes this time. Day 1 of my pairing adventure.
