Trying to grow a green thumb

I've been reading some of the old posts from this forum ... lots of great info but my head is swimming. Based on the general statements below ... am I on the right tract to try raising plants? What other areas do I need to consider?

Seagrasses need a maure sandbed so I might be 6 months to a year away from them (i'm starting with a fresh DSB).

Plants need nitrates, phosphates, potassium, CO2, and light to survive and also utilize various trace elements. Some require calcium.

Not enough of any one required element will slow/stop growth, even if all others are abundant.

Too much of anything can cause problems.

Iron is good ... iron is bad ... dose it ... don't dose it ... use this kind ... use that kind ... no one agrees when it comes to iron.

Test for what can be tested ... experiment with others to find optimal levels.

Nothing good happens fast.

Any comments will be appriciated. Sorry for the insecurity ... my sister got all the plant genes.
