TTM & Fish Dying

No chemicals of any kind have been put in any of the buckets, other than Prazi for that second bucket on wrasse #1. I use the little ammonia badges, haven't seen one change color in the slightest. I try to clean most of the food out after feeding too, but I know these particular fish are shy, so I try to leave some behind too.

i don't trust the ammonia alert badges. they have never been accurate in my experience. i would suggest using an ammonia detox product like Prime or AmQuel in conjunction with your prazi regimen.

i would also give some thought to what others had said about wrasse and not doing well with prazi. this is something i've heard before, but i haven't had to QT a wrasse since i started using TTM with prazi.

I only used the Prazi on the first fish, but used the badge for both of them. I also used some of the tetra easy strip type tests to do quick spot checks from time to time... Mostly to gauge pH and ammonia/nitrite/nitrate. One of the tests is ammonia only, the other has 5 different test pads. I've found they're usually good for ballparking things.

Ammonia tests never changed a bit - even did a titration after i found both fish dead and no ammonia was present. Not sure if it's because the fish were small and didn't generate a lot of ammonia or not.

I'm starting to think it's just one of two things - either the fish were already doomed and I just flushed it out via TTM, or wrasse's are just hard to QT, which totally sucks - and is expensive.

After my ich/velvet outbreak that lead me down this path, the last thing I want to do is not properly QT a fish, just because it's difficult. :headwallblue:

It seems like you did everything right. I am leaning towards maybe the fish were just weak to begin with. I have read that some wrasses are sensitive to QT, but it is a roll of dice. I would still try QT on future additions.

My very 1st 2 fish (Banggai Cards) both died after round 1 of TTM which was preceded by a Formalin bath. I was very discouraged but picked up 2 Black and White Osc Clowns and put them immediately through TTM ( I skipped the Formalin this time but plan on it after TTM ends). Both are currently doing great in the last TTM transfer before long-term Qt. I am chalking up the 1st 2 deaths to "sometimes they were doomed from the start". Otherwise I'd be a walking mess. Good luck.

I basically said the thing thing to him, got back the whole "been doing this forever, never had an issue, etc."

Sad to pass along such bad info.

Yeah sure is, I have heard quite a few off the wall things in the LFS. Now days with smart phones, it is just to easy to look stuff up than take the word of someone trying to sell something.

To the OP, what brand salt were you using? JW, I've had some strange precipitation issues also.
