TTM for ich - what next?

So, I think I painted myself into a corner. I had two clownfish in a 10g QT and determined that they had ich. I decided to try the TTM for the first time so I bought another 10g tank and started the process - currently in the third transfer.

Well I didn't really think it through because now I don't have a cycled QT tank or filter media that hasn't at some point been in contact with the TTM water. My DT is currently fallow for 3 weeks. I'm not sure what to do once I finish the tank transfer. With two tiny clowns, can I just get by with water changes until the new QT cycles? My expensive b&w clowns will then become my potential sacrificial fish.

I have an ammonia alert tag that hasn't picked up any ammonia during the few days in the transfer tanks. How long can I keep ammonia at zero with water changes every few days? Otherwise I will have to put them in the DT and risk them re-contracting disease.

I do 30-40% water changes on the 2nd day during TTM but you can also use Prime to convert the ammonia into non-toxic.
I have a HOB filter for the longer QT period after TTM is finished so there's no ammonia worries.

There are plenty of hobbyist that don't have a cycle QT. You will need to have some Prime and a ammonia alert badge on hand. All you need is a heater and an airstone. You will have to keep up with your ammonia and make the necessary water changes.

Thanks lg and scooter. I have an ammonia alert tag and am ready with Prime. I've been dosing Prime on the second day of each transfer just to be sure. Good to hear cycling a QT isn't a major problem as long as WCs and Prime keep up with ammonia. I have another 7 weeks before I can put then in the DT so I hope it holds out. I've always cycled my QTs beforehand but I'm low on tanks at this point.

I just went through TTM and sadly lost my precious porcupine puffer, spike, but I now have my other fish in QT. They are all in a 10 gallon that only cycled for a week maybe. There are two clowns and two damsels and they are all eating fine and just look alittle scared because they have to stay in the dark during CP treatment. The message here is that if I can safely have 4 fish in a 10 gallon with prime and weekly water changes then you should be fine with 2. Good luck!
