TTM with leopard wrasses

How would you do TTM with wrasses that burrow into sand. I've read some forums on this but I'm still confused on how to get the leopard wrasse out of the sand when it's still adjusting to the tank. Since forcing the wrasse out of the sand will cause even more stress.

Would I have to place the wrasse in a qt tank first for observation and acclimation, then do TTM after its adjusted.

I asked about this a while back. The decision I came to was to do the transfers at a time that the wrasse will be out of the sand, instead of early first thing in the morning. Just maintain less than 36hr between transfers.

you mean 72 hours between?

i had to deal with this with some yellow coris wrasses a while back. little buggers buried themselves whenever i was in the room. i ended up just pushing them out. it is only 4 transfers, and even that additional stress won't kill them.

Thank you both for the replies. I might as well just wait for the wrasse to leave the sand if it's less than 72 hours in between transfers. The idea of pushing them out may be a last resort for me though, the least stress for them the better.

How about putting a plastic Tupperware container filled with sand in the tank? So they can still burrow in their sand but making the transfers a lot easier.

i think the issue is having to wait for the fish to leave the sand rather than force it out. sand + ttm means you have to completely replace the sand each transfer (cysts would be in there).
