Tunze 9430

Hello All,

I have been trying to look for information on the Tunze 9430 skimmer and have very little feedback.

How does it perform?
Is the tank rating overstated?
what is the ideal water height?

Is anyone using this skimmer? Also what is the overall feedback.

I am looking at putting this on a 400 gallon mixed tank. The price for the 9430 is only a little more than the 9415 (less than a hundred bucks for double the size almost).

thanks for any help.

Hi Triggers,

The 9430 is a relatively new skimmer, but it's based on previous designs. So even though it hasn't been out for very long we've gotten very good feedback. As with all Tunze skimmers, the 9430 is designed with efficiency and ease-of-use in mind. It is not a skimmer that will require constant adjustments. Once set up and broken in you won't need to do much more than empty the cup and check the pumps every few months.

The ratings for our skimmers are based on FOWLR systems. For a mixed reef we suggest deducting 40% and for SPS systems we suggest deducting 60%. So the 9430's 800 gallon rating would equate to 480G for a mixed reef and 320G for an SPS tank. I'd say it's a good choice and would recommend it over the 9415 for the tank you're planning.
