Tunze Nano Osmolator

What's your take on getting an auto-fill system for a 30g setup?

I put one of these in last week; it's been so hot that I have to run a fan over the back chambers of my Biocube 29 to keep the temp down. Every time I hear that little pump whirr it's like the angels are singing. Not having to top off constantly has been more awesome than I can even say. It's VERY sensitive too. Since the back chambers have a much smaller water volume than the DT and I keep the water level a lot lower, it only runs 2-3 seconds at a time. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the input,

I would really like to avoid having to install a fan as well though. Do you think it is necessary? How hot are we talking about?

It really depends on your ambient temp, equipment, lights... if I don't run the fan, it gets around 84-85 (or higher) at peak with the lights on. With the fan it'll stay in the 78's with an ambient room temp of 80. Does yours have a hood or is it open top? The hood is what keeps mine running hotter. :) I'm actually picking up a used chiller this weekend so I can stop having to worry about it!

I have a Innovative Marine 30g Rimless, so it's an open top. My tank stays around 74-76 regardless of the lighting. I bought the IM SKKYE Light. Its only 30 Watts but the lights housing has its own fans to cool the LED's as well. I just really want to avoid having to buy an fan and install when its too late and the water is too hot.

If you're open top, you probably won't have as many issues, but you might want to pick up a cheap clip-on fan and keep it handy just in case. Doesn't have to be a big one, just something that can move air across the water. If you don't already have any issues though you probably won't anyway. :)

Thank you so much for the replies, I was honestly too 50/50 about getting one. Especially because I need a new protein skimmer and I the pair of clowns I want are going for 120 a pop :[

Yeah, I totally hear you, my wallet is screaming from all the setup costs even though I got some really good deals on some stuff. :) If you do need a fan, any old clip on fan will work and you can find them cheap everywhere. Mine's just a little 6" job from Target that I prop on one side of the hood.

Do you think I could see a picture of your setup?

Since we are fellow nanocube enthusiast with about the same size tank; I wanted to ask you if you added any additional wave making nanostreams? I was thinking of a Tunze Nanostream 6020, waiting for the nanostream 6040 to come out because it has a controller, But im curious where it would be best to stick something like this.

Honestly my tank is in a dark corner, so photos don't really show up even with flash but I can tell you what's in it.

In the display (besides 30# live rock, 5# dead rock, 10# dead sand):
Hydor rotating deflector head on the return
JBJ Oceanstream 500 Wavemaker - one pump on each side set for 6 minutes each. I'll be replacing these with Jebao WP10s and hooking them up the Apex eventually
Koralia 425 on the back wall, pointing mostly to the surface for surface agitation - I may ditch the rotating head on the return and just get a duckbill pointed to the surface and remove the Koralia once I get the WP10s
A "ghetto fuge" - it's an acrylic soap dish holder with chaeto, at the top where the return hits it
Apex temp probe zip-tied to the upper intake grill

In the back:
Chamber 1: AquaticLife 115 skimmer
Chamber 2: InTank media basket with floss on top (changed out very frequently, just for detritus), Purigen in the middle, Chemi-pure Elite and an extra bag of GFO in the bottom. I hope to cut back on the chemical filtration as the tank ages.
InTank Fuge basket with chaeto and 10w submersible halogen on a timer that comes on when the main lights are off for the night
Chamber 3: Cobalt Aquatics MJ1200 return pump, ViaAqua 100w heater, Apex PH probe, Tunze Nano ATO sensor and feed - there's a lot packed in there :)

The tank is still very new and has a fairly low bioload with 10 snails, a nimble spray crab, a yellow watchman goby, an MIA pistol shrimp (I know he's in there somewhere!!), and a bunch of feather dusters. Parameters are pretty good but I'm working on reducing nitrates (5-10ppm) and phosphate (was .14 the day after I set up the tank, will test again this week and see where we're at now after time and GFO).
