Turning false wall into a "reef wall"

Ok I would like to some how turn the false wall in my AIO into some type of reef wall.

You know where people use some kind of foam & sand and make it look real.

I would like to do something like that.

The false wall is already in the tank and attached... so this is something that must be done right the 1st time around.

What are my options?

I really want it to look at natural as possible and it would be nice to use real strips of live rock.

But, I want it to look like an entire cliff, so what can I put between the cracks of the strips of live rock so that I dont see the background?

silicon & then sprinkle sand on it? Or would that look bad?

I think if I use a band saw to cut strips for the false wall, that might turn out pretty good? What do you guys think?
