Two little fishes reactor with carbon

So I am new to running anything through a reactor and I just got 2 two little fishes reactors and I want to run carbon and rowaphos.

I got the carbon one set up and some of the carbon that went through the sponge that came with the reactors. 1. Do I need to buy more fine sponges? 2. Maybe like 4 or 5 pellets went onto tank. I assume that is not good but I would like to know what the issues would be with getting them in your tank.

I have it set up for now with an extra sponge and the flow is low like it should be so I shouldn't have the issue again.

Are you using carbon pellets or in powder form? Pellet form is probably better to avoid fines from entering your DT

I'm using 0.8 activated carbon. It's auqamax Rox.

I think maybe a few pellets got into my sump somewhere but I am assuming a few pellets won't do anything.

I assume though if alot of these made it into your sump or dt they would have to be removed manually?

Should be ok if a few make it into sump. Did you make sure to flush the reactor by running about a gallon of water through it into a bucket before connecting it to DT?

Yes I rinsed the carbon first and then I ran between 1 and 2 gallons through it out of my system and into a bucket.

I do a couple of different things when I run ROX carbon in my TLF reactor.

The main thing I do is run it in "reverse" mode i.e. swap the normal inlet and output.

This forces the water down through the top sponge and helps keep the carbon on the bottom of the reactor. This is especially helpful with ROX which tends to float for some time after you first put it in.

The second thing I do with all my reactors it run the output through a filter sock (mesh type) to catch anything that gets past any of the sponges.

When I'm running GFO it has to be run in the regular direction since you want the top of the media to move around a bit.
