two skimmers instead of one?

I noticed marine depot has the Euro-Reef CS80 protein skimmer on sale for $200. This handles only 80 gallons, and I plan on 150-180. A skimmer to handle that volume is not on sale and costs $628. Is it crazy to consider buying two of the CS80's and hooking them both up to get the capacity I need?

I found that when I ran 2 skimmers one of them would skim quite well and the other would not get much skimmate at all. This was with two HOB remoras though.

I think in theory it would work better....it would give it more oppurtunity to get picked up and skimmed out.

The limiting factor would be how does a bigger one differ? Does it create more of a vortex, causing finer/stronger foam for the particles to be suspended and caried to the top on....then no.

I havn't seen any data on the fluid dynamic theory on how a skimmer works to begin with, big or small.....I bet if you found that info, you could make an educated choice on that info.....
