So I have a 72.5" long 150g reef with ~125 pounds live rock, ruby 36 elite sump, 36w UV, 12,000 litre/hr return, 20,000 litre/hr wavemaker, and I am currently running a (new edition) Coralife Superskimmer 220 needle wheel, 4 way dosing pump, ATO, etc. Got it for $150 brand new including tax.
This tank has a nice refugium, has only 12 different species of coral, and is mostly domain for my fish in it (clown tang, yellow tang, marine betta, soldierfish, hawkfish, x2 chromis, x2 cardinalfish, scooter blenny, and a dalmation molly.
-------------------------------------------------
The second system is all completed, but I haven't filled it and officially fired it up. It is a coral growth / propagation / frag tank. It is 80 gallon capacity (48x48x8) with 100g sump, 800 l/hr canister filter for reactor, 24w UV, 9,000 litre/hr return, 10,000 litre/hr wavemaker, 4 way dosing pump, ATO.
------------------------------------------------
HERE'S WHAT MY QUESTION IS.
I bought a ASM G3 (250g model with sicca pump) that was one month old for $200 out the door off craigslist for this second system.
I am wondering if it would be wiser to run the ASM G3 in my 150g tank with the clown tang, or wiser to run the ASM G3 on the 80 gallon coral growth tank??
Keep in mind the coral growth tank will have A LOT of softies, and very few, if any fish.
Also, the Coralife 220 isn't doing a bad job on the 150, it's filling up my 15qt rubbermade it's hooked to with black liquidy slime every 2 weeks. I haven't run the ASM G3 yet so I don't know of it's performance, but I assume once I modify it with a gate valve, it should out perform the Coralife 220, which is why I'm contemplating swapping the skimmers in the first place.
What are your thoughts?
