Type K thermocouple on Apex?

A little off topic for aquariums, but wondering if anyone has ever hooked up a Type K Thermocouple to an Apex?

I am about to upgrade from an Apex Lite to the A3 for the fish tank. Was thinking of using the Apex Lite's data logging capability to monitor temperature of a kiln which typically uses Type K thermocouples to measure temp in the 950°F to 1600°F range.

Will the Apex understand the input from a Type K thermocouple?

I do not know. If it did, would it be able to report such values since that's far beyond the range of aquariums?

Well then the first question is "what type is the Neptune probe"
Could be a K type.. Or J ect..
J, K, or T refers to the calibrated temperature range: J[black]: 0 – 800° C; K [yellow] -50 – 1200° C; T [blue] -200 – 250° C; (RTD: -200 – 400° C).

BTW: I tried to see if I could find the "type" No luck so far.

Next would be if the software truncates the charting say .. anything past 100 degrees F is "null" or some default value like "over"..

Identifying types../

Hey Oreo57, thanks for the thermocouple identifying video. Learned a couple of tips, especially magnetic wire leads. Who knew?

Unfortunately, I'm not ready to snip off the connector from the old temp sensor just yet, so that would be hard to test for. ( If all goes well, I'll be able to wipe the Apex Jr. clean and continue to use it somewhere else. Right now it won't take a firmware update, I can't bring it up on my LAN with a browser, and Fusion won't stay connected...)

When I do take it out of service I'll check if I can see wire color in the little RJ-9 (?) connector at the end of the old temp probe. Regardless, I'm pretty sure it would be a Type J based on the temperature range.

The good news is I picked up a new Apex A3 system yesterday and will try to get it set up this weekend. 🤞

The 100 degree limit is a software issue ..
Type J: usually used in a range from approximately -210 °C to +750 °C (-346 °F to 1382 °F).
