What type of cerith snails do people normally get? I see dwarf and Florida ceriths.

Also the same with nariarius snails, I see regular, vibex, and orange spot.

A mix of dwarf and Florida cerith and nassarius vibex from reefcleaners.
Also have a few huge nassarius from my lfs that are 2"-3".

cool thanks for the info. I'm looking exactly at reefcleaners and other LFS.

what are the differences between all those snails? do most LFS stock dwarf or florida ones and do most LFS stock nassarius vibex or another type of nassarius?

My Florida ceriths can cover more ground, but the dwarfs really get into the nooks of the rock. I only get vibex nassarius, they just eat leftover food and dead stuff not algae so I don't see the need for big ones if I feed appropriately and don't have much death. I really like my trochus snails too, they do more for the rocks than the rest put together (and their shells had a lot of coralline to seed my tank so that was a bonus).

When you go on reefcleaners.org you can read about each type they sell. It's the best snail info around IMO.

yea i read a lot, but reefcleaners don't seem to stock trochus or astrea snails.

the reason i ask about the snails that LFS stock is I'm wondering what the price difference is. like at reefcleaners the dwarf cerith snails are 17 cents and the florida ones are 60 cents. ellis aquatics seems to sell only "cerith" snails at 60 cents, but which are they? same with the nassarius snails. are all of them vibex at local fish stores?

Not sure if all the lfs's know what they have either.
I've read a few horror stories of people getting predatory snails. Also, depending on the store, you might end up with a snail that people call a couple different things. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but Some folks are calling Astreas "ninja star" snails.
You're best bet is keep researching and buy from trusted sources, identify them yourself or trade with hobbyists who are sure of what they have.
