unattach, attach rics

i have a huge rock full of rics, but there isn't a suitable space for it to fit in my tank. i would like to take them off of the rock they are on and attach them to a large piece of live rock in my tank that is part of the main structure. what would be the best route at going about this? is there a way to safely cut them off of the rock and attach them to little rubble pieces and then to the main rock, or should i carefully use a dremel and cut each ric off with a tiny pice of attached rock and then epoxy it to the main structure? i am new at this so a bit of help would be GREATLY appreciated! thank you in advance!

I'm going to tag along on this one. I have a couple of rics that are starting to spread and I don't want them to get out of hand.

That is what I would do.

I would not keep them out of water for extended periods of time, and as soon as you cut one off, put it in a dish of water until you are ready to glue. I glued my polyps that were attached to rubble out of water, and it worked really well. I had the rock out long enough to glue about 15 polyps to it, and all were fine. The only pictures I have in my gallery are of the green Ricordia Rock I am talking about here.

Find the spot you want to place the Ric on the rock, dry both that spot and the piece the Ric is attached to, and apply cyanoacrylate glue as needed. Place the Ric on the rubble into the glue, and use a turkey baster to squit a bit of water onto the glue, it makes it set.

If you have never done this, it can get a bit sticky, so don't touch the glue, especially with wet hands. You will glue yourself to yourself, or other things.

I had a purple ric. florida on my main rock that was surprisingly hostile to nearby corals and need to be moved.

Since I couldn't remove the rock from the tank I just chiseled it off with a screwdriver. It was as brutal as it sounds, but I put it down into my (lighted) refugium just in case it might survive. It attached and was as good as new within a couple of days.

I'm not sure I would recommend this is a first choice method, but this animal was amazingly hardy.

I had a ric on the back of a rock i didnt want there, so i cut it off thinking thats the only thing i could do. i sold it to a friend and what do you know theres another one growing where i had cut the other off!! i guess ill just have to chizzle that off for it to ever cease to be there.

you can also just use ur fingernail to agitate the foot of the ric, do this slowly and dont try to rip it off. once its off do the net attaching method wherever you want it to go
