uncle bill's coral colonies

I finally got a chance to visit Uncle Bill's. Look's like will have decent supply of live rock once the tank cycles. Pretty average selection of fish for the most part. There were a few species that I hadn't seen before, all wrasses. They had a nice selection of coral colonies. They were large and reasonably priced ($100). Sounds expensive, but I picked up an acropora formosa with 30+ tips, it measured roughly 7-8in by 5-6in.
It was a pale yellow. You may say that the color is boring, but I wanted a blonde coral that would be a nice backdrop for a pink birdsnest. They had a beautiful rose milli, very nice colony, someone should pick it up. There was also a large "delicate" acro about 10"-8" in size. Another one to mention was a very large encrusting monti. It has a dark brown base with blue polyps. I'd bet it would look killer under actinic dusk/dawn lighting. There's going to be another shipment from California coming in tomorrow (thursday).

Other than their prices on coral colonies, I thought their prices were a little on the high side. $45 for a 2-3in yellow tang, seems a bit high to me.

I'd be cautious buying fish there for another 3-4 weeks. Their tanks are still cycling. You can tell by the way some of their fish are behaving.

Long term. they are going to be a competitive store they we should all visit from time to time to see what they have, just might find something different and worth buying.

As long as this has been, I'll call it my 6 cents.

I hope on their coral, they get a few better peices. I was in there on monday, and they had some nice stuff, but you can get the same thing at klaus for around $45. Although I did see the peice you picked up and it was cool. i wonder how the color will change in different lighting.

ill have to stop in and look at their coral, havent been there to see those tanks with nething in them yet.

dont have money to buy nething, but i can still check it out

I noticed that under my lighting, it had green tips. Klaus has some very nice pieces. Best place to go for coral (my opinion). The colonies at bill's are quite large compared to most at Klaus's. I have seen a similar coral at Klaus's a couple of weeks ago. It was only a 3-4 point frag, which would take 2-3 years to equal the size I picked up today. usually I like to get frags (cheaper) and watch them grow. This time I was looking for instant gratification. It took a 25qt bowl to acclimate and 3-4 points were still poking out of the water. Every few minutes I gently poured water over the exposed points to keep them from drying out. I'll get some pictures posted in the next few days.
