undy and wrasse

Im thinking about putting a 7" wrasse in with my 4" undulated trigger which is in a 100gal tank.
lots of tonga branch, 3" deep sand bottom.
what type of wrasse would be good? if any.

Guessing some type of Thalassoma, mostly likely a Lunare or Sunset wrasse? I don't think the outcome would be very good long term, it might work for a few months though. I wouldn't, however, necessarily count the wrasse out, they are quite the brutes themselves.

I have a large clown trigger with 3 wrasses, many tangs, angels, etc. The wrasses I have are a large Lunare, Red Coris and a green neon. The trigger doesn't touch them, wrasses are extremely fast and agile. Plus they can burrow in the sand.

I draw the comparison between a lion and a cheetah. Sure the lion can kill the cheetah but how often can it catch it. In a 100g tank, I dont think the UT will be able to catch the wrasse. I think you should try it.

I agree. If you get a lunar wrasse and it is to much bigger than the undy, it is possible that the trigger will be the one getting the crap kicked out of him on a regular basis. But....with the sizes you stated I think it would be a perfect match. A lunar wrasse is one of the few fish I would consider keeping with an undy.

Why are 2 of the best looking wrasse/trigger so aggressive.... luckily that means we can combo em!

It doesnt matter how fast the wrasse is, in a 180 gallon tank, where is it going to go? Eventually they have to meet, and understand the undy is already acclimated were as the wrasse is just coming in. Also you are talking about probably the most aggressive wrasse up against the most aggressive fish. The undy would kill it regardless of size.

Sunset or Lunare, I think they may be able to coexist, those 2 wrasses are super fast and agile, a very difficult fish to bully....I would have a plan in place if the Undy gets nasty, and make sure the wrasse you get is bigger than the Undy currently is.

I have an undy with a mappa puffer and a maculosus angel and he is on the bottom of pecking order. The angel is the smallest fish in the tank but is the undisputed king of the tank.

so it sounds like a 8" lunar wrasse would be the one to house up with my 5" undy, and also rearranging the tonga branch before i put the wrasse in would be good.

I would put my money on the Undy... either the Undy with house the wrasse... or you will just simply stress your Undy and never see her again...

I only speak IMO
