Unsucessful LFS trip

Thought I'd go check out Andy's but he's closed and rear wheel drive vehicles have no business out there getting in my way!

Sell the pos Dodge and get a man's truck Roy...here is my new toy. :D 18 mpg on the highway too.

I can get 18 on the highway, it's the 10-11 around town that bites. Where would I put the 4 kids?

Plus I don't drive GM's. Maybe a Vette.

Actually my buddy Greg just found us a Jag we're going to go look at! I was about to put the Cirrus in the shop and dump about 1500 into it but he found the Jag for 12K, will give me 2500 on the Cirrus, so not bad. I'd get 50K of warrenty just in case. But we've been driving the Durango pretty much full time and we'll double the city mpg.

The 4 kids is the killer...keep Jack up front and toss the others in the back. lol In town driving I have been averaging 15, the advantage of a stick I guess, but the 3.73 gears don't help the mileage either. I am learning to hate the gas pump....going from 30-35 mpg with the Firebird to 15-18 with the truck has not been fun.

Going anyplace I want however has been a blast. Beach driving has been fun. :D

Jack that's NOT good!! Dude my Hemi Quad Cab come's in at 21mpg on the highway, however only 13-15 mpg in the city, still though 18 mpg that's what I'd expect from a Chevy product though. You should have just bought a FORD Navigator with the nice and big 460 cubic inch gas guzzler, then at least when your only getting 18 mpg you can say: It's a 460 man!!: instead of a 305

By all means Jack, nice truck, but you suck cause greens my favorite color :D

The Hemi is nice but not a Hemi like I grew up with. The 426 is dead. lol No 305, that was a dog of an engine, this is just a little 4.8 liter LS based, aluminum engine that stock was only good for 295 hp. Add to that the Gibson stainless headers and exhaust, the 85mm throttle body, cold air intake and it gets up and runs. I think this thing will outrun the Firebird. :D It either has 3.73 or 4.11 gears and 4x4 so that hurts the mpg a lot but adds a lot to the fun factor. At 130 k it has high mileage but you would never know it as it is tight and still powerful. The previous owner added a Hotchkis suspension to it and it handles better than any 4x4 I have owned, even with the 17" Nitto off road tires.

I have a friend here with the Navigator, he hates it, claims to get at least 12 mpg on the hwy.

We are planning a trip up to St Louis soon and we will see how it does with just interstate driving.

I was thinking of some nice 3.42's :D

I don't think those would make enough difference in mileage to be worth the work. Is that the type rear with the 3rd member you can just swap out? Then when you do trips, throw in the Chevy equiv. of 2.71's or whatever their number is.

If they are 3.73's not a lot of difference except in OD...if they are 4.11's then it will. Anything in the 2's will be too small. Gear swaps are not easy if they are done right. If I go too small on the gears it will kill performance. I kind of like being able to fry tires in first and second. :D

Thanks, it has been fun...we have gone camping 3 times so far with it and one long trip to the coast.

When I am fuel economy minded I drive the Firebird.

That's cool. As long as you keep at least one slow anemic engined vehicle for those long trips to save money on gas. :D
