Unwanted fragging...

I have a LARGE yellow finger leather that I've had for years. It's been growing like a weed, to the point where it no longer has enough rock for its base to adhere to! Anyway, over the weekend while I was away at a wedding, it apparently grew large enough to get topheavy and shear itself in half, as well as a few chunks here and there.

I've been watching it carefully over the week and it hasn't seemed to daunt the leather that half of it is missing....it's all open, polyps out. My concern, however, is that a lot of the interior of the leather is exposed. Its not rotting, it's healthy, minus a lot of the little scelerites that are everywhere.

Is there anything special I should be doing? This is one of my oldest and....was....one of the largest leathers I have. I'd hate to see it deteriorate because of this. Everything else in the tank is fine. Thanks for any tips!

Now I have to figure out what to do with a loose piece of softball sized yellow leather!

Your leather should heal up ok in its own. I have a yellow finger leather that I've fragged by cutting it in peices. They all do fine. Just make sure it has enough flow so that detritus doesn't settle on or stick to the wound.

Also you might want to run some carbon in your system for a few days. Leathers can release a toxin when stressed that may stress other inhabitants.

As for the softball size frag. Place it onto some rock, either wedge it on place using other rock to hold it down or secure it with a loose rubberband. Leave it alone for a few weeks and it'll attach to the new rock. After that you can place it where you like or sell or trade it.
