I've recently added a tuexedo urchin to my 90G to help combat a few patches of GHA & Bryopsis that have appeared. My question is how much do these guys need to eat and should I be supplementing its diet with nori?
I do not have live rock so there is no coraline for it eat but there are small, dense but sparsely distributed patches of algae on the rocks and the backglass is covered in the usual green film with a few longer strands of GHA.
Its CUC competition is in the form of 11 trochus snails, 3 blue leg hermits and 2 strawberry conch.
Once or twice a week I usually add nori for the conch as the sand is usually spotless thanks to their constant hoovering but have been holding back on this whilst trying to limit nutrient input to the tank (again to help with the algae). I'm not sure if feeding them is really necessary to be honest as I don't clean the bottom 2" of glass to give them something to forage but not sure whether this is enough to keep them going long term?
