I got in from work thursday about 1 am took a quick look at the tank and saw something didn't look right upon closer observation I saw I have an urchin in the reef tank. I haven't added rock in at least a year that I can remember and we moved the tank about 5 monthes ago and didn't see it then I can't tell its doing any damage but live aquaria says it's not reef safe I think its a pencil urchin anybody kept one in a reef or should I get it out if I ever see it again

I hate urchins... More so because they're littly bull dozers than anything else...

Not to be disagreeable, but I love urchins, much better than snails IMO, but never a pencil urchin as they're probably the worst of the lot. I have several tuxedo and rock boring varieties and other than occasional coralline algae eating they do no harm and actually eat undesirable algae better than anything I've found.

Everyone has their opinions... :) Really if I were more on top of things and mounted frags instead of just wedging them somewhere, it wouldn't be a problem...

yea we decided we have been blaming the snails way to much for knocking stuff off I just can't belive we haven't seen it before I'ts golf ball size
