URGENT Hippo tang

My hippo's dorsal spines seem to be degrading away.
i have seen fish with this but much more progressed.
what could be causing this, and how can i stop it.
his dorsal fin seems to be poking out and thinning.

help!

Are there any other signs of injury on him (pockmarked scales, erosion of skin around the face)? What are you feeding him? I assume he's in your 180?

he is in a 180.
has a few specks on the face of erosion, but nothing really. basic hippo specks.

i am treating the tank with hyposalinity for ich. could he be reacting poorly?

He could be, but also the hypo can kill off your nitrating bacteria, which will help raise the levels of ammonia/nitrite in your tank.

Have you checked ammonia lately? I'd do it, also check pH.

A while back I hypo'd my tiny hippo tang and it came down with some nasty HLLE. After the treatment was over, it quickly recovered in the display tank.

she looks alot better today!
still a bit torn look but less of the white deterioration on the dorsal.
