Use the rock?

Itchy fishy

When I pickup my 65 gal. I grabbed rock from a couple different people. Bleached what I was going to use and the rest I let dry out. Last batch was out of the water for about a week. I put it all in a tub and started "cooking it" 100% water changes weekly. Durning one of the water changes I noticed a red worm retracting into the rock. I tried to grab it but ripped in half.
Have no idea what it was. Now I'm ready to add some of this rock to my tank and I'm nervous should I be concerned about what left in the rock. Rock been cycling for about 2 months.

I personally would not risk putting hitchhikers in the tank. That red worm was more then likely a bristle worm and some people enjoy them , some don't. To get rid of the pest you should of given it a muriatic acid bath before start your cooking process. Just having it re-cycle wont kill all organisms on/in it. If its already cycled, try posting it online and selling it and start over with some marco or any dry rock available to you!

that was my thoughts were to just sell it. their are some pretty cool shelf pcs I really wanted to use. Anyway I could make it a bit safer. You know how their is a coral dip? Think anything along these lines would work.

for the amount you will have to use I would not even consider it and I doubt it will do anything getting deep in the rock.

I know AquaMaxx has nice dry shelf plates I used in my aquascape ! got 50 pounds of Marco boulder and 50 of plate. Took a long time to cure and leach all the phosphate out but I'm so happy I don't have any unwanted pest in my tank ! You will be able to sell your live cured rock for way more then what you will pay for dry so you will end up with a few more bucks in your pockets !

Happy Reefing :bum:

I'd use it.

Muratic acid bath it all first and you will be good to go. Since you let it all dry out and bleached it anyway, it's not like it's worth much as "live" rock at this point.
