Everyday looking at your beautiful pics of coral keep me thinking of getting one. A used D200 is all my budget can handle. With many used, low actuation, nice condition D200 out there, how much and what condition will you pay for it?
thanks!

Even if in Prime conditions I would not pay more than 700-800 usd for it as after that the price difference does not justify not getting a D300.
Please note that cameras are more expensive here than in the USA so maybe that 800 would be too much too. Guess for a price difference of 500 usd I would still go for a new D300 instead.

I would say 800-900$ would be fair. That's actually why I haven't sold my D200. I'd rather keep it as a spare than sell it for so little. It is worth more to me than what I could get for it. That has to be the greatest bargain on the market.

Closer to 800 if it has a lot of actuations, closer to 900 if it has very few.

Of course then you'll still need lenses (though you can typically get one with a budget lens for close to 900. The budget lenses don't fetch much resale.

Current used D200's over at B&H are going for around $930. A lot of it depends on condition and number of shutter actuations (sp???). A new D200 is around $1,300.

New D300, body only, is $1,800 at B&H. If you can get a nice, clean D200 for $800 it's a good deal.

I've seen some guys off-loading D200 kits on the Nikon boards for $1,200 that include a lens or two, extra batteries, CF cards, etc. Just gotta hunt around.

But if you have $1,800 to drop on a camera body alone then by all means get a D300. I love my D200 and will have it for a LONG time before I can even think of going to the 300. By the time I'm ready to do that they will probably have a D400 out!

Thank you all for your inputs ! that help alot to know what to expect from a limited budget. I thought of a macro lenses but boys it's expensive, even an off brand. So a kit like VoidRaven mentioned would be nice. Hope I can get nice close up pics out of those lenses. In fact after a while of thinking of a D300, I gave up allowing my desire to chase after a newer one, never end. I'm wondering what capable of a D400 are, lol
Thanks again!
