Using carbon in a filter sock

Hi guys,

I'm trying to decide wether I want to use carbon in a filter sock or get a phosban reactor and use it in that. I really would rather just use it in the filter sock because thats just one less pump running and 1 less piece of equipment in my sump. How much should I put in a 100 micron filter sock and how often should I change it out?

I tried it several years ago and it just didnt work out how I had hoped, pieces of carbon went floating out and some were shot into the tank, just kinda messy. After that I went with the TLF reactor and is much better.

I have been doing it like that for years. I put it in a mesh bag, rinse then put in the filter sock. No problems at all.

i am interested too...i use carbon in a canister filter, because carbon works better under pressure. but how often should i change it. i rinse it once a week and change it every other week. should i do it more or less.
