I have a chance to get all the sand I need for free. Soon, I'll be setting up a new 90g tank. I got 100lbs of live rock from one guy that broke down his tank....and,have a chance to get sand from another established tank that has been broken down. Is it ok to mix the 2 together in my 90 when I set it up?
using from someone else's broken down aquarium...?

I normally rinse with tap water till the water runs clear, then do a quick rinse with saltwater to get the tap water residues cleared out.
Rinsing with tap would remove the bacteria, but if you have live rock and are reusing your water then the bacteria would repopulate in no time.
If you wanted to keep your bacteria, then just rinse in saltwater. But definitely rinse it.

Just save a few cups to re-seed and rinse the rest.

If you have 100 pounds of live rock, that's all the bacteria you need.
I'd wash the sand thoroughly.

I personally would just get new sand, all things considered it is fairly cheap. I have never been a fan of reusing someone else's sand. I don't need any unknown headaches.
